Image Youth Ministries is the youth ministry of Overcoming by Faith. The youth ministry is based upon the belief that we are all made in God's image. Using powerful ministry including singing, dancing, and drama, the youth convey the word of God to encourage their peers to also walk in the image of God!

Theme Verse: " Anyone who believes in Me will do the same works I have done and even greater"

John 14:12 NKJVFor many years we have prayed and sought God's direction on how to best accommodate the continuing growth He has brought to Overcoming by Faith. We have been at our current location since 1992 and God has blessed us bountifully with 2 main multipurpose facilities. Since 2001, we have purchased over 10 additional acres around our facility to prepare for the next major step. Beyond obtaining land we believed that God was much more interested in building people than in building buildings. Now to accommodate our growing church needs, it' s time to move to our next phase of construction. Overcoming by Faith has become a beacon of light in our community for evangelizing, educating, elevating, and embracing those in need. God is now leading us with a " Greater Vision" and we are believing for a Greater Harvest" .

strong drink" (Proverbs 10:1, Eph. 5:18). For
many their greatest intoxication is not found in a
bottle, but in the harvest field of God's blessings.
When God Blessed Noah he found himself sidetracked
one evening by the blessing. He drank too much of
God's gift to them.Year after year stories of preachers
who travel too much, and church people who church
too much fill the streets. Have you allowed yourself
to become intoxicated with your harvest? Are you impressed
with your anointing? Dr. Temple takes you on a journey
to measure your "Harvest Alcohol Level".
Listen in and see if you can walk the line and touch
            your nose.
        This series includes: Intoxicated
with your Harvest Part 1, Intoxicated With Your Harvest

The Road To Your Child’s Success Goes Through Reading - Your Child’s Success

The Road To Your Child’s Success Goes Through Reading
by: Mary Joyce
From the first day your child enters this world and hears the sound of your voice, they begin their foundation for understanding the language and becoming a reader.

From that first moment on, each time you speak to your child and respond to the sounds that they make, you are their teacher helping them to improve their understanding of the language that surrounds them in their new world.

Reading is the foundation from which all other education is built upon, and the spoken language is preparation of the surface on which this foundation will be laid.

With language as the surface for the foundation, and infants being such natural sponges soaking in everything around them, every opportunity you have to communicate with your child should be taken advantage of.

Talk, listen, and respond to your child. Sing and read to and with your child and you’ll be mapping a course of success.

A child’s early experience is, of course, language. They take in and very soon begin to imitate that which they see and hear. Soon to follow will be the recognition of the individual characters that make up the language. From there the individual characters morph into words, words then become sentences and onward. And as reading continues to develop, so does the child’s vocabulary as they encounter, recognize, and master even more new words. Then there is writing that soon develops and builds as it all ties back to reading.

With all of this going on, it’s easy to understand that becoming a reader is a step by step process for children. Not all learn at the same pace and some children will need more practice and attention than others.

However, by the age of about 7 most children are on their way. During this time frame, even the children experiencing difficulties can overcome them and become a very successful reader when given the proper attention. Your active participation in this early development of your child’s reading skills is vitally important.

It will be a time not only filled with wonderful moments of bonding and celebrating successes, but it is a foundation you are building that your child will benefit from for their entire lifetime.

Although this timeline is greatly condensed in the form of this article, you should easily see the importance and the direct correlation reading has to the long term success that your child experiences.

When your child is but a baby, read aloud to them regularly throughout each day. Cuddle up with them and read them a story in the afternoon. And by all means don’t forget about the tried and true bedtime story.

Make reading to your child a quiet, comfortable, and loving time for them; one that they look forward to and enjoy. If they are restless, energetic, and in play mode, save the reading time for when they unwind and ready to snuggle up.

Generally speaking, try to spend at least a half hour a day reading with your child. Keeping their natural attention span in mind, early on your reading time will be shorter and more often.

Needless to say, with young children, a set schedule is tough to follow as each day is such a new adventure for kids this age.

Don’t worry if your reading times don’t consistently come together at the same times each day. The key is to look for those quiet opportunities for reading and bonding time. Your child will begin to associate reading with something that is fun and enjoyable and not something that is an interruption to the rest of their day.

Doing this will keep reading fun for both of you, develop good reading habits with your child, and lay the foundation for a lifetime of successes.

On the Road with Baby - On the Road with Baby

On the Road with Baby
by: Danielle Burgi
Taking a road trip with a baby is definitely a challenge, one that some parents may welcome while others dread. Whether you’re excited about it, stressed about it, or a combination of both, there are some basic suggestions that can help you make the trip successful and fun!

First of all, allow yourself plenty of time! A trip that only took 5 hours pre-baby could easily take several hours longer now. You will need to stop to feed and change your baby, and also just to give them a chance to stretch out a bit. These breaks will help to relieve the boredom of a long car trip and keep baby happier, definitely worth the extra time!

Pack a bag or backpack full of fun toys. Some of the best toys for traveling are those which can attach to the car seat so your baby can’t drop them. Another great way to entertain your child is to play children’s music or taped stories. You could even record yourself reading some of your child’s favorite stories!

If your baby is still nursing, you can bring along a manual or battery-operated breast pump so you can pump in the car. This would also allow you to feed your baby without having to make a stop. If your baby is eating solid foods, bring along some age-appropriate snacks. Soft and chewy snacks may be less messy then things like crackers. For meals on the road, pack a picnic cooler of food for yourself and your baby. This way, you can eat whenever you are ready and you won’t have to worry about finding a restaurant with nutritious meals for your little one. Make sure to bring along some napkins! A large bib that can be wiped off is also a must.

Pack a mini-diaper bag with just the essentials such as diapers, wipes, and lotion. This way, you can do quick changes anywhere without worrying about digging through a big bag. A small change pad is a good idea since many places don’t have actual change tables. Also bring some resealable plastic bags – these are perfect for temporarily storing soiled clothes, dirty diapers, etc.

Try to stick to your baby’s regular routine as much as possible. If driving tends to put your baby to sleep, you can play games such as Peek-a-Boo to keep them awake when it’s not their usual naptime.

Other good things to bring on a road trip are window shades to keep the hot sun off of your baby, a favorite blanket or stuffed animal, and a stroller. If your baby is old enough, an umbrella stroller is perfect for trips as it is small and lightweight. You may also want to bring some type of carrier or sling. Pack extra diapers and clothing just in case!

Emergency supplies are a necessity, pack a first-aid kit, flashlight, tools, water, snacks, and anything else you might need in an emergency while on the road. If you are going to be traveling in cool weather, bring warm blankets as well.

With the right preparation, traveling with your baby can be an enjoyable, rewarding experience!

Top Ten Tips To Get Your Baby Sleeping Better - Baby Sleep

Top Ten Tips To Get Your Baby Sleeping Better
by: Tammy Hussin
Having a new baby is an incredibly exciting time, but it can also be filled with a great deal of anxiety. One major source of that anxiety is if you have a baby who isn’t sleeping well. Sleep deprivation will quickly wear you down, and your baby will be exhausted and irritable as well. When this pattern goes on for months, a once happy little family can rapidly turn into a tired and cranky crowd.

Much of this angst can be eliminated by helping your baby learn to sleep independently. A baby who sleeps who sleeps independently is usually a baby who sleeps through the night and takes nice, long naps on a consistent basis. Enabling your baby to learn how to sleep better should be a simple and gentle process, and most often your baby even have to shed a tear. This article will provide you with some important tips from the baby sleep book, Sleep Baby Sleep, and will help get you started on your way to having a better sleeping baby and a well-rested house.

#1 Establish a Consistent Nighttime Routine

One important aspect to getting your baby to sleep through the night is to have a consistent bedtime ritual. A solid evening routine will help your child understand that it is time for sleep when the routine is complete. A typical schedule might include a bath, some quiet time, a final feeding, and then a good-night kiss. Though your particular routine may vary, it is important make sure you have some kind of consistency at bedtime.

#2 Help your Baby Learn how to Fall Asleep Independently

Each time your baby is ready to sleep, no matter what time of day or night it is, you have a brand new opportunity to help your baby learn how to fall asleep without your help. If you try your hardest to seize each of these opportunities, your baby will be sleeping through the night sooner than you can believe. Keep in mind though that this is a process, and not an overnight miracle. Be consistent in your efforts and you will quickly teach your baby how to fall asleep without your help.

#3 Put your Baby to Sleep Awake

If you get only one idea from this article, it’s that you need to try to put your baby to sleep while he is still awake. In other words, try to avoid having your baby fall asleep before you put him down. Be sure that your routine includes putting your baby in the crib or bassinet before she is asleep. If you put your baby to bed awake, she will more readily learn how to fall asleep without your help and your baby will sleep much better.

#4 Establish a Daytime Nap Routine

Sometimes figuring out a good daytime routine can be even more challenging than the one at bedtime. Out of sheer exhaustion and the desire to get a few minutes to yourself, you might be inclined to do absolutely anything to get your baby down for a nap. The problem with this is that your baby will begin to need that particular method in order to nap (for example, driving around, rocking, nursing, etc). You won’t be happy if your baby can only take a nap in the car, or nap only if you lie down beside her, or only if you rock her to sleep. Instead, try to get your baby napping by falling asleep alone, and you’re likely to wind up with a great little sleeper on your hands.

#5 The Family Bed – should you or shouldn’t you?

A family bed is not a bad thing, and many families the world over would have it no other way. If it’s something you want and have planned for, then by all means do it! On the other hand, if you have wound up with a family bed only because your baby cannot fall asleep any other way, then it might time to rethink your situation. A family bed could last for years, and if unwanted, often results in frustration and resentment and chronic sleep deprivation.

#6 Waking up Throughout the Night

Most, if not all, babies wake up several times throughout the night. Even a baby who is already sleeping through the night wakes up numerous times during the night. The key is that if your baby knows know how to fall back to sleep on his own, he won’t need you to put him back to sleep. So, don’t rush in as soon as your baby wakes up in the middle of the night. Instead, give it some time and you might be pleasantly surprised to find that your baby falls back to sleep on his own.

#7 Getting Baby on a Schedule

Most people thrive on some sort of a schedule, and babies are no different. Your child is likely to function much better if he becomes familiar with the same events that happen throughout the day. If you get your baby on a schedule with a regular agenda, she will quickly figure out when it is time for sleep and will fall asleep much easier. Keep in mind though that everyone needs a little flexibility built into their life, so make sure that you are not too inflexible with your baby’s daily routine.

#8 Avoid using Aids to Help your Baby Sleep

Many exhausted parents resort to external aids to get their babies sleeping (for example, constantly using a pacifier, driving your baby around, and rocking or nursing your baby to sleep). Though your baby might initially fall asleep sleep quicker with these external aids, you are ultimately making your job much more difficult. The problem is that it helps you avoid teaching your baby how to fall asleep alone. Instead, take the time to get your baby falling asleep without any help, and he will fall asleep faster and sleep better.

#9 Be Consistent

The more regular you are in how you put your baby to sleep, the quicker and easier it will be for your child to learn how to sleep independently. No matter how tired you are, or how much you might be dreading the night ahead, a consistent effort will pay off quickly. Be patient with yourself, as it is not always easy to keep with your plan when you are intensely sleep deprived. Just be as consistent as possible, and you will see results.

#10 Take Time for Yourself

It’s so easy to forget about yourself when you have a new baby. But playing the parent role 24/7, and having no time of your own could cause you to grow resentful and feel deprived. Instead, make a conscious effort to ensure that you get some time for yourself. You’ll feel rejuvenated, happier, and you’ll have more energy to devote to your family. You can and will be an amazing parent even though you get a little bit of downtime, and there’s no better time to do it than when your baby is sleeping soundly. Enabling your baby to sleep independently is truly a priceless gift that you’ll give to everyone under your roof. Your baby will be much happier if he is better rested, and so will you!

Home Safety for Toddlers and Small Children - Home Safety

Home Safety for Toddlers and Small Children
by: Mia Thompson
Home Safety for Toddlers and Small Children

If you have toddlers in your home, then safety is obviously a big concern. They are big enough and mobile enough to go just about anywhere but they little to no understanding of how dangerous some things might be. So, you know that you need to toddler-proof your home but how do you go about it?

A great place to start is by placing ‘baby gates’ at the top and bottom of the stair case to prevent injuries. Be sure that you purchase a gate that is sturdy and can be easily fastened to the wall, railing or some other solid surface on or near the stairs. Even with a baby gate, never leave a toddler unattended near the stairs.

Next on the list to put child safety latches on all cupboard and cabinet doors the child could possibly reach. Remember, toddlers can climb! Pa extra attention the cabinets under the kitchen or bathroom sink or anyplace you store medicine, cleaning supplies, garden chemicals or poisons. In the garage or storage shed, store all weed killers and chemicals in a locked cabinet and place the key in a location where your child cannot find it.

When it comes to toddler safety, prevention is the best method. Store your child’s books and toys at their level so they do not have to climb to get to their favorite game or stuffed animal. If your child has a lamp, fan or other electrical appliance in his/her room, tuck cords safely behind furniture so the child cannot pull anything down on himself.

Avoid choking hazards by keeping young children away from small objects, pieces of toys, and small pieces of board games. Read manufacturer instructions for all toys and follow their guidelines. Buy only those toys and games that are appropriate for a child of a particular age. Place plastic safety plugs in electrical outlets so the child cannot stick his fingers in the outlet.

One aspect of home safety that is often overlooked is mildew and mold. Mildew and mold can cause serious illness and injury in adults and toddlers alike. Mold or mildew can be the cause of allergies and asthma in small children. Install a dehumidifier in any damp areas to mitigate the moisture in the air.

Potty Training Your Toddler
by: Jacqueline Courtiol

Getting your toddler to perform toileting independently is a welcome milestone for any parent. Few of us want to be changing diapers much past the child’s second birthday. However, children vary greatly in their adoption of the potty routine which is influenced by a child’s innate ability, aptitude and maturity. However, there several tips and techniques you can use to hasten the blessed day when your toddler says: “Mommy, I did potty by myself”.

1) Get your child ready - explain to your child that it's time to do "pee-pee" and "poo-poo" in the potty. Promote the benefits of being trained such as no more diaper rash, interruptions for diaper changing, being clean and dry. Discuss training as an important stage of growing up.

2) Make it fun – first and foremost, make this a game. Children will naturally resist anything which is not framed as a fun learning experience. Use play, music, toys, and stories as part of the experience to keep the child from getting bored or distracted.

3) Create a ritual – try to make the experience repeatable so your child knows what to expect each time and gets into the routine of sitting and staying on the potty.

4) Use props – use of books, toys, videos and music all help create an atmosphere of fun and enjoyment which is so essential.

5) Time it right – Try repeating the process every hour for 2 to 4 minutes. If you can do this close to times your child usually has a bowel movement or urination, such as just after a meal, even better.

6) Be prepared - If you are traveling or away from home, bring a folding, plastic adapter ring that fits onto an adult toilet seat is useful. Extra tissue and wipes will be useful in bathrooms that are short on supplies.

7) Give praise – give you child social praise for sitting on the potty patiently or for staying dry. If the potty routine is successful, consider some reward (e.g. special prize, book or foods) that are especially valued.

8) Show your child how to clean up - demonstrate how to wash hands and dry hands on a towel.

Remember that training you child takes patience and perseverance. Staying on task and being consistent send an important message to your child. Above all, don’t let your child feel forced. It’s important to keep the whole experience fun and enjoyable for the best results.

      Our Purpose

Jesus commands us to bring the little children to Him (Matthew 19:13-15).
At Overcoming By Faith Ministries, children are greatly loved. Our Children's
Church Ministry has services on Sundays and Wednesdays. Our goal is
to bring each child into a Spirit-filled relationship with Jesus Christ.

      We Partner With Parents
We believe God calls parents to be the primary spiritual
teachers for their children. We are here to help. The ministry is staffed
with carefully screened volunteers who are qualified to teach children
          to become kingdom builders.

        The Infant Ministry enjoys providing
loving care and attention to infants from 3 months - 11 months. While
parents enjoy the service, we will gladly administer proper care to
include bottle feeding, diaper changing, along with ministering in song
and intercessory prayer. We do not spoon-feed children or administer
medications. We operate a Well Baby ministry.

One year olds are taught worship
songs and have a Bible time. Music videos, and scriptural songs are
used to give your child a heart for worship. Two and Three year old
experience the goodness of God through a progressive pre-school curriculum.
Memorable Biblical truths are introduced with simplicity. Children begin
to understand how much God loves them. They have a grand time singing
worship songs such as "Jesus Loves Me", "If You're Saved and You Know
It", and Father Abraham." They are taught to enjoy the Word through
          fun-gross motor activities.

        Four and Five year olds
are just beginning to understand simple principles and they understand
God loves them. Biblical principles are introduced to help these young
children know, love and follow Jesus Christ. Age appropriate instruction
is bible-based, fun and introduces foundational christian traits.

        This age-targeted program introduces
biblical principles to children in grades one through five. With praise,
worship, and a Bible time catered to their developmental needs, children
in 1st-2nd grades learn that God has called them to be lights that will
shine in their world. Third through fifth graders are motivated to study
the Bible and develop a relationship with Jesus Christ. During each
session, children are challenged to apply the Word to their lives and
          make good decisions.

Doctrinal Basics

  1. The Holy Scriptures

We believe the Bible is God-inspired.(2
  Timothy 3:16, 17)

  2.
    The Eternal Godhead
  We
believe God is Triune: Father, Son and Holy Ghost
  (2
    Corinthians 3:14)

  3.
    The Fall of Man
  We
believe that man was created in the image of God, but that by voluntary disobedience
he fell from perfection. (Romans 5:12)

  4.
    The Plan of Salvation
  We
believe that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us, signing the pardon
of all who believe on Him. (John 3:16; Romans
    5:8)

  5.
    Salvation Through Grace
  We
believe that we have no righteousness and must come to God pleading the righteousness
    of Christ. (Ephesians 2:8)

  6.
    Repentance and Acceptance
  We
believe that upon sincere repentance, and a whole-hearted acceptance of Christ,
we are justified before God. (1 John 1:9)

  7.
    The New Birth
  We
believe that the change that takes place in the heart and life at conversion
is a very real one. (2 Corinthians 5:17; Galatians
    2:20)

  8.
    Daily Christian Life
  We
believe that it is the will of God that we be sanctified daily, growing constantly
    in the faith. (Hebrews 6:1)

  9.
    Baptism and the Lord’s Supper
  We
believe that baptism by immersion is an outward sign of an inward work. (Matthew
28:19) We believe in the commemoration of the Lord’s Supper by the
symbolical use of the bread and juice of the vine. (1
    Corinthians 11:24, 25)

  10.
    Baptism of the Holy Spirit

We believe that the baptism of the Holy Spirit is to endue the believer with
power and that His incoming is after the same manner as in Bible days. (Acts
    2:4)

  11.
    The Spirit filled Life

We believe that it is the will of God that we walk in the Spirit daily.

    (Ephesians 4:30-32)

  12.
The Gifts and Fruit of the Spirit
  We
believe that the Holy Spirit had gifts to bestow upon the Christian; and that
we should show spiritual fruit as evidence of a Spirit-filled life.

    (1 Corinthians 12:1-22; Galatians 5:22)

  13.Moderation

  We
believe that the experience and daily walk of the believer should never lead
him into extremes of fanaticism. (Philippians
    4:5)

  14.
    Divine Healing
  We
believe that divine healing is the power of Christ to heal sick in answer
to the prayer of faith. (James 5:14-16)

  15.
    The Second Coming of Christ
  We
believe that the second coming of Christ is personal and imminent. (1
    Thessalonians 4:16)

  16.
    Church Relationship
  We
believe it is our sacred duty to identify ourselves with the visible church
of Christ. (Acts 16:5, Hebrews 10:25)

  17.
    Civil Government
  We
believe that rulers should be upheld at all times except in things opposed
to the will of God. (Romans 13:1-5)

  18.
    The Final Judgment
  We
    believe that all shall stand some day before the judgment seat of Christ;
and there receive eternal life or death. (2 Corinthians
    5:10)

  19.
    Heaven
  We
believe that heaven is the glorious eternal home of born-again believers.
    (John 14:1- 3; Revelation 7:15-17)

  20.
    Hell
  We
believe that hell is the place of eternal torment for all who reject Christ
as the Savior. (Revelation 20:10, 15)

    21. Evangelism
  We
believe that soul winning is the most important responsibility of the Church.
    (James 5:20)

  22.
    Tithes and Offering

  We
believe that the method ordained of God for the support and spread of His
cause is by the releasing of tithes and the giving of free-will offerings.
    (Malachi 3)

Salvation Prayer

Father, you said in Romans 10:9 that if I confess with my mouth the Lord Jesus, and believe in my heart that you have raised Him from the dead, I would be saved. Today, I openly confess that I believe in the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ and receive your promise of salvation in my life. Therefore, as I surrender my life to you, I believe I am saved and that you will bring all necessary changes to my life. If you prayed this prayer please let us know by clicking here!
